It’d be intriguing to know the intricacies pertaining to just how prosecutors were/ are misusing their power to attain convictions, if that’s what they’re doing ? The notion of mass incarceration is shocking and abhorrent. I’m a firm believer that we have to scope and approach offending behaviors from a more humanistic perspective, as opposed to a systemic approach.
    .
The systemic approach has failed in the past, and it is failing societies at present. It astounds me that we, as a race of people, haven’t emerged from that perspective. Recidivism is not addressed by imposing lengthier sentences, and I believe that a more practical approach should be forthcoming around rehabilitation programs, and address the underlying issues that might trigger the cycle of unlawful behavior.
    .
Obviously, some repeat offenders belong in prison; serial killers, murderers, rapists etc but the others, need more help to unravel what is triggering their offending behaviors, with a sound treatment plan to addressing those issues whilst they’re serving their time.

I guess it said that by plea bargaining, they get more convictions, if for lesser crimes, do you think? But mostly, it said more than once that paid or coerced witnesses are widely used, and I don’t know, maybe that was about leveraging plea bargain convictions too?

      .

for my part, I am presently hating most on the law and order politicians who make their hay by destroying the poorest and most vulnerable communities and worsening the problem all the time.

We have a prison near bye and I know a few jail birds and after asking what its like on the inside, it sounds like high school sort of. There really is not any kind of psychological rehab happening … like no treatment at all. They live in little pods, they eat, go outside, some of the better behaved ones work in the facility and that’s about it. One of my old neighbors said they offered classes but they were like , I don’t know how to put it, like they were talking to second graders most of the time. Maybe its different in other places? But it sounds incredibly boring, no kind of learning a vocation or anything … babysitting adults?

I’m getting to know a member of my family who’s a lifetime criminal and hearing some stuff about it . . . yeah, I don’t think abused kids always do great in school and neither do adults. Rehab while you’re either fearing for your life in GP or in the hole in PC, maybe not the best learning environment . . .

Yeah, Ive successfully avoided any kinds of incarceration and I look at it this way … you have a group of men, most of which have natural tendancies to dominate, from usually terrible back grounds. I honestly can not think of a worse scenario to be in. I met a man, a short little guy, in on drug charges and he said he was raped constantly, partly just due to his size … that whole situation is just a night mare 😲😵
